Terminator 2: Judgment Day is heading back to theaters this May to mark its 35th anniversary, with Rialto Pictures and StudioCanal organizing a limited eight-week engagement starting May 22.

Originally released over the July 4th weekend in 1991, Judgment Day quickly became a defining sci-fi blockbuster. Arnold Schwarzenegger flipped his role, portraying a reprogrammed T-800 sent back in time to protect young John Connor, played by Edward Furlong. Together with his mother Sarah Connor—portrayed by Linda Hamilton—they attempt to stop the rise of Skynet and prevent a future nuclear catastrophe. A major highlight of the film remains the villainous T-1000, played by Robert Patrick, whose liquid-metal form introduced groundbreaking visual effects at the time. Joe Morton appears as Miles Dyson, the scientist whose work leads to Skynet’s creation.

Directed by James Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with William Wisher and produced alongside Gale Anne Hurd, the film earned widespread acclaim. It grossed more than $200 million domestically and won multiple Academy Awards, including honors for visual effects and sound.

For this anniversary run, audiences can experience the film in several formats, including original 35mm and 70mm prints, as well as updated 4K and 3D presentations—offering both nostalgia and modern clarity for one of action cinema’s most influential titles.
